Rust Nation UK 2023 conference

Rust Nation UK 23

Today I attended the Rust Nation UK 2023 conference. This was via the live link not in person. I had been looking forward to it all week. It was held at the Chiswell Street Brewery (formally Whitbread brewery) in the City of London, close to where I worked for a long time. Although I could have afforded the almost £500 to attend in person I could not justify it. So I had to make do with the live link and miss out on yesterdays tutorials. I saw the the following :

  • The opening address from Nell Shamrell-Harrington from Microsoft.
  • The talk on Rhai scripting with Rust by Jonathan Strong of Keyrock.
  • Lets get Rusty by Daniel Thompson-Yvetot of Tauri.
  • Tim McNamara of AWS author of Rust in Action.
  • Tobie Morgan Hitchcock of Surreal DB.
  • Senyo Simpson of Fly.io.
  • Jon Gjengeset on Living with Rust Long term. I had seen him prepare for this talk on YouTube.

I thought the whole event was great, Rust seems a good vibrant community. I hope the other talks from different tracks are available to view at a later point.

Attended QPR vs Sunderland last night

QPR vs Sunderland

Great win for Sunderland (0 – 3) the young team seem to have no fear and are getting better as the season progresses, despite injuries to Ross Stewart and Corry Evans. Penalty save by Anthony Patterson, Luke O’Nien scored followed by two from Jack Clarke. Pierre Ekwah looked strong when he came on. A great team performance again. The season looks promising.

Zero to Production in Rust

Zero to Production in Rust

An opinionated introduction to backend development in rust.

Today I purchased this ebook having read a review from This Week in Rust 478. I agree with the comments in the review. I was looking for a more advanced Rust tutorial and was wanting something with Postgres database so this seems ideal. So looking forward exploring further similar to the blog and learning along the way.
